Core Director: Ginger L. Milne, Ph.D.
The purpose of the new Integrated Health Sciences Facility Core is to carry out the analyses of disease biomarkers relevant to the clinical mission of the NIEHS Core Center.  The initial focus is on analyses of human biological fluids and tissues for Center Investigators and Associated Clinical Research Investigators in the Core Center.  Associated Clinical Research Investigators are selected by the facility committee, with time allocated for use of the Facility Core in research projects.  At the start of this Facility Core, a major focus has been on various lipid oxidation products including eicosanoids and markers of oxidant stress.  With the focus on diseases that have an environmental and lifestyle component, lipid oxidation markers will be utilized by a number of investigators to explore the role of inflammation and oxidant stress in various disorders.
